Biography
It’s a question that haunts the hallways of every dimly lit rehearsal space long after the last power chord has faded into the hum of the fluorescent lights: What is the point?
The answer to this question is the soil from which beinn (pronounced "Ben") emerges. Not as a hopeful seedling, but as a gnarled, deep-rooted oak. They are the embodiment of the “Lifer” ethos, defined as a true rock band who has cut their teeth not on the whimsy of internet clout, but rather nestled deep within the dirty tour van, scouring over the minutiae that breeds excellence. beinn is a Gaelic word that can either be a mountain or high hill, which can be used in reference to someone who takes the high road or someone who holds their head high and maintains dignity, integrity and sincerity as they navigate this cold and dark world.
The debut album by beinn, "Perpetual Architecture," is a landmark—the 20th full-length credit for frontman and creative engine Arty Shepherd (Errortype:11, Instruction, God Fires Man.) Forged in the crucible of old friendships with fellow journeymen Eric Adams (Adam's Castle, Pastel Hell) and drummer Jeff Gensterblum (Small Brown Bike, Coalesce), the album is a testament to the power of accumulated wisdom. This isn't the sound of kids trying to make it; it's the sound of masters remembering why they started. To further cement their lineup, Chris Enriquez (Spotlights, On The Might Of Princes, Orange 9mm) has taken over drumming duties, keeping the music in the family while Gensterblum continues his work with Coalesce and The Casket Lottery.
For fans of: Smashing Pumpkins, Slowdive, Hum, Failure
If you've ever been swallowed whole by the thunderous guitars of the late 90's alternative rock sound and felt as though you were being moonbeamed directly into heaven, then you are in good company with beinn, and you can count yourself among timeless legends.
