It's not every day that you get to announce a new collaboration between two underground musical legends, so it's proper to give pause when introducing Mare LaMacchia, the collaboration between Mike Mare and John LaMacchia. This new outfit is ushering in their own unique blend of indie electronica and a fresh take on fringe, experimental music.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a preorder and these are expected to ship on or around April 24th
While Mare may be best known for his work in the iconic hip-hop group Dälek (Ipecac Recordings) or perhaps as the vocalist and electronics wizard of the UK based band Holy Scum (Rocket Recordings) and LaMacchia’s name may resonate most with fans of the progressive metal/jazz/hip-hop fusion group Candiria (Century Media Records) or the violently dark rhythm guitar work of Julie Christmas (Red Creek Records), these two have come together to create a sonic landscape that is somehow managing to break new ground.
The debut EP from Mare LaMacchia explores a slick electronic soundscape that somehow pulls equally from both artist’s pedigree; dark and lush. Close your eyes and imagine yourself stumbling through the crowded NYC streets - it’s mostly dark, but there is still some neon cutting through and piercing your vision. On top of these electronic dirges you will find a duet of vocals, vacillating between breathy, reverb-laden verses and more direct choruses that are lined with hooks and poise.
The physical versions of this EP are spread across two stunning vinyl variants, pressed onto heavyweight 10" records. Both variants are housed in an entirely hand-crafted album jacket, each one cut, printed, folded, glued and assembled entirely by hand. The jackets consist of an inner piece comprised of thick, kraft French Paper with a two color screen print accompanied by an outer portion that not only boasts another two color screen print, but also some sleek die-cut details to fully bring the design to life. This elaborate layout will be exclusive to the limited edition first pressing and will not be replicated in the future!
